15Jun09 | Filed Under: News, Studio news, workshops | No comments
The studio will be closed for renovations for 2 weeks. We’ll be taking down walls and adding new signage, so loads of dust and mess. It’s going to a big job, but we’ve put it off for 6 months. Afterwards we’ll have loads more space, I’ll post photo’s when everything is up and running.
Bookings will commence again in early July.

The Spa at Bridlington was host to another of the worlds premiere bands. Kasabian played to a packed house, one of the smaller dates on there sold out tour of England. I’m a fan of Kasabian so I was particularly happy having on of the best spots in the venue. Lighting was very good on this gig , so I blatted away and took over 800 shots on 2 cameras in 3 songs, now all I’ve got to do is go through them all :( Still, I’d prefer to spend more time after the gig than missing a gem of a shot). One of the highlights of the night for me wasn’t the band, it was the heavily tooled up photographer from Sony, who was in awe of my kit (mainly the 5DMark2) what can I say i’m a bit of a gear junkie :)

Pre -Wedding shoots galore from gallerino studio
15Jun09 | Filed Under: News, Portraits, Weddings | No commentsI’ve been really busy (what’s new:) doing loads of pre-wedding shoots for couples who are due to tie the knot. Good weather in England at the moment so I’m making the most of it, It seems there is only 3 months of the year good enough to venture out, but even those are punctuated with days with miserable rain and Grey cloud, having said that, the Grey dramatic skies have started to be a signature of my outdoor portraits. Loads of Weddings on the way so watch out for the couples here
Robert and Tracy, Malcolm and Stella (and Markus), Simon and Holly (and Mia), all these weddings are set to be Crakin! :)

A little late posting this one :)
Saturday was the wedding of Paul and Rebecca at the Priory in Bridlington and afterwards at the Royal Hotel in Scarborough. At first glance it looked to be a good day, but from a photographers point of view the blazing sun and cloudless sky was a nightmare, well not totally, I just didn’t like the idea of everyone squinting and having to hunt for a patch of shade to shoot in. As it turns out I was lucky enough to get shade were I needed it and a fantastic couple who were willing to go the extra mile to find the most photogenic spots. It’s my second time a the Royal hotel and I knew I had to make the most of the architecture and details of one of the grand hotels of Scarborough. Loved the photographs and really look forward to the gorgeous Rebecca “trashing” her dress ;)

Introducing the guerrilla fashion photo workshops.
Above is the promo eflyer for the workshops to be held here at gallerino studio. After regularly being asked how to “do what I do”, It was a natural decision to hold a couple of specific photo-sessions with a mind to sharing some knowledge on the the two most requested subjects. Sure I do all types of photography and have in the past been the under the heading ‘have camera will work’ but have been taking photographs of people for 14+ years, my passion lies with the natural, emotional capturing of a subjects personality (so if you ain’t got one I ain’t gonna get it!)
The guerrilla style refers to the fast setups and unconventional lighting while still getting ‘Rockin’ shots!
We truly believe we are at the forefront of modern high street photography and are always looking for ways to diversify and be a market leaders (rather than followers) so, we are looking at the subjects that only the new and daring photographers are looking to do.
The models we have selected are exclusively available for this workshop, we deliberately picked ‘alternative’ models for there real world appeal, no-one off the street or browsing the web is going to think you can take a shot of them, if all they can see is vogue wannabes, but don’t be fooled they are some of the best in the world, all have been widely published and will boost any prospective client expectations. Models included are:
Mosh (exclusively from The US)
Ulorin Vex
Ruby True
Sohui
Day 1,
Alternative fashion is becoming the studio norm, with teens and adults looking for something that sets them aside from the pack. I have seen first hand, the market evolve while photographers and studios biting at the heels of some of the more more lucrative studio franchises, in my opinion, this is purely business and not photography. If your a new breed or are crying out to migrate to fresh and more rewarding pastures then we’ll give you the leg up you need. By using some of the best models in the alternative scene we’ll go through some of the techniques needed to think and shoot outside of the box. We will utilize every nook and cranny of the studio spaces we have, learn to use lights in an new and unconventional ways and at the end of it all take sets that you can use in a portfolio.
Day 2,
Modern boudoir a subject that has recently been jumped on by photographers as the ‘next big thing’ The UK is one place that held onto the 80’s way of thinking when it comes to the sleazy ‘glamour’ snapper, Christ! there is still loads of them about, but we aim to change the perception (hopefully not single handedly) ‘flattery will get you everything’ this is true for lighting, so we’ll show how choice of strobist, studio lighting, tungsten or day light will make all the difference. We will delve into the murky depths that is Nudes, as this is bound to be an area that at some point you’ll get asked to do, with the right amount of know how you’ll be well on your way to shooting with confidence. At the end of both days we’ll be explaining the everyday work flow that’ll give you more creative time.
Having said all that, if your a Pro photographer who just wants an insight into how I do things or wants to photograph the models for your portfolio, your more than welcome :)
Fee for the days:
Alternative Fashion £390 (Pay before 25th July and get £115 off)
Modern Boudoir £390 (Pay before 25th July and get £115 off)
Or £520 for both days (pay before 25th July only)

I’m a little late putting this one on, I blame the bank holiday :)
On Saturday I was over in Sunny Scarborough for the wedding of Andrew and Karen. The Ceremony was held at St Laurences church in Scalby and afterwards at Ox Pasture Hall on the North Yorkshire Moors. I had never been to either venue before, and was pleasently surprised with the warm reception from both. I did end up taking a huge amount of photographs, as everywhere I looked there was a fantastic backdrop or landscape, plus Andrew and Karen were very ‘giving’ when it came to the portraits by themselves, they didn’t bat an eyelid when I suggested going into the woods near the hall (bear in mind it had rained heavily the days prior the wedding) When I noticed we were heading into deep mud, I threw in the towel and opted to use the gardens at Ox Pasture. Thanks anyway guys for trusting me, your photographs are testament to that.

Pallant/Stamper pre-wedding (told you I was busy:)
19May09 | Filed Under: Uncategorized | No commentsAmist all the other things i was doing on Saturday I took Andrew and Emma out on the sea front for a pre-wedding shoot. As usual we battled the great British weather we had rain and wind, but the both took it like troopers. The sun did come out for a minute or two so we grabbed the oppertunity and got some cracking shots.

Still recovering from a long day, I was on the go, in work mode from the moment I woke to the moment my head hit the pillow much later the next morning. I was covering the ‘Mutiny’ punk festival at the Spa in Bridlington. Mutiny was an all day festival with acts from all over including: Goldblade, UK Subs and headliners ‘Stiff little fingers’. A mass of noisy guitar tunes and spiked hair, it was a great gig. I even braved the mosh at the front to try and get a few shots from the crowd, I’ll think a little harder next time :)

Saturday I was Down in sunny Peterborough, for the wedding of Sarah and James. Fantastic day had by all, I say this as James is related albeit a little distantly :) (basically as our respective grandads were twins we are practically cousins). I was also happy to see a number of other ‘Walkers’ and extended family there, hardly a working day, having said that I opted to do all the travelling in one day 6 hours+ driving doesn’t do my eyes much good.
I’m a big fan of forces weddings grooms always having a more’dashing’ appearance, “not that don’t normally James” :)

After the Bank holiday Karen and Andrew popped by to finalise details on their up coming wedding. Wasn’t the best day for shooting but I convinced them to come outside for a ‘taster’ I shoot very differently to every other photographer I’ve known and I find that if I give a prospective couple a heads-up on my style of shooting, we won’t have any surprises on the day (well! hopefully:) I’m glad to say we included their dog Jambo, who won’t be at the wedding as he’s a little excitable. I think he made a great addition to the shots as he’s such a character, I had to take one of him on his own. :)

Saturday was a great day for outdoor photography, real nice quality light. I was out with Faye at Skipsea (beach) to finish the set of images for her updated portfolio. I like to approach these type of shoots in a very loose way, this ’guerilla photography’ style gives me the freedom to utilise the surroundings in a more creative way, plus I’ve then got the opportunity to use the location again in a more controlled way. Faye is definitely a natural, which gives me a free hand to make the most of the the final shot. We went for an editorial look that would date better and give her portfolio more longevity. The 2 posts on here are a (very) small selection from the 150 shot selection. :)
